The family behind the favorite
A Pascagoula tradition since 1957.
A family seafood market. A boy who found his place beside his grandfather. And a community that helped Bozo’s become what it is today.
It began with a family seafood market.
Bozo’s began in 1957 as a family seafood market, founded by E.J. “Bozo” Delcambre. Long before the stuffed po’boys became a favorite, the family was serving seafood to the Pascagoula community.
The market would become a family business carried through three generations. Its story is rooted here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, in the Delcambre family and the people who have kept coming through its doors.
A summer that became a lifetime.
Keith Delcambre, Bozo’s grandson, began working alongside his grandfather when he was ten years old. It was the summer of 1969, and the connection he made with the family business would stay with him.
Years later, Keith remembered his grandfather paying him each Saturday in a white envelope with his name on it. By the end of that summer, he had saved enough to buy a mini bike. The experience taught him what work and saving could make possible—and helped him picture a future at Bozo’s.
The po’boy that started something.
In 1985, a trip to Slidell to pick up oysters brought an idea home to Pascagoula. Keith’s Uncle Doris made him an oyster po’boy. Keith enjoyed it enough to tell his father they should serve something like it at the store.
His father encouraged him to give it a try. Po’boys joined the menu that year, with Keith’s mother and grandmother among the first family members making them. A seafood market had opened the door to a new chapter as a place to stop for a meal.
Pascagoula helped put it on the map.
The deli grew, and so did Bozo’s reputation. Locals brought friends, travelers stopped in, and longtime customers kept returning. In a 2016 television feature, one customer described visiting for fifty years. A Pascagoula police officer shared that he regularly sent people there with his personal recommendation.
The recognition reached beyond the Coast, too. Coastal Living named Bozo’s “America’s Best Seafood Dive” in 2012. But the daily support of Pascagoula remained at the heart of the business.
More room at the Bozo’s table.
In 2018, Bozo’s Too brought a sit-down restaurant experience right next door, with lunch, dinner, and a full bar. It gave customers another way to enjoy the Bozo’s family, while the original Market & Grill continued serving fresh seafood, po’boys, and seafood dinners.
Bozo’s 2.5 Oyster Bar & Grill added another gathering place, with live music, karaoke, and evenings spent with friends. Today, the three businesses offer different experiences, connected by the Bozo’s name and their place in Pascagoula.
Still opening the doors.
Keith credits his employees, customers, and community for what Bozo’s has become. When he speaks about the business, that gratitude is part of the story.
“Without our customers, all of this wouldn’t be.”
Keith Delcambre
From a grandfather’s seafood market to a family of places to eat and gather, Bozo’s has grown with the people around it. The buildings and menus have changed over the years. The family connection—and Pascagoula’s place in the story—continues.
Come be part of the story.
Whether you grew up coming to Bozo’s or you’re finding us for the first time, we look forward to welcoming you.
